FEST IS MOVING TO LAKE CASITAS

The 2008 Southern California Homebrew Festival will be held May 2 & 3 at Lake Casitas just outside Ojai, California. We are thrilled that the beautiful Lake Casitas Recreation Area is welcoming us to their park. The change in location presents some challenges, so bear with us.

JULIAN SHRAGO WINS BELGIAN HOMEBREW COMP

The winner of the 2008 Belgian Homebrew Competion is Julian Shrago from the Long Beach Homebrewers. Julian brewed a Belgian Quad that was aged on French Oak. For his efforts, Julian was presented a medal on Saturday and will enjoy bragging rights until the next Fest.
We had a total of 12 entries in the Belgian competition with only one entry per club. Judging this year was by Will Crosby, Brewer, Firestone Walker; Adam Ball, Brewer, Anacapa Brewing; Pete Johnson, Brewer, The Brewhouse; and Ron Gordon, Brewer, formerly with Back Street. We would like to thank our well qualified judges for taking time to judge our 12 entries, as well as all the brewers that entered the competition. Stay tuned to find out what style will be chosen for next year's Friday Night Homebrew Competition!

**** "4 Stars... Qwiksand is a four-piece band that combines funk, reggae, rock, and ska influences for a stripped down California beach-tremolo sound. It’s definitely got some serious groove, and I would recommend this to any fan of Sublime... Beach rock at its best!"

FEATURED BAND SELECTED

The Missiles of October logo

In September of 1991, four seasoned musicians joined together to create a band and a sound that is best described as Soulfolk. The music draws from a wide range of diverse musical indulgences, which include R and B, pop, folk, blues, and jazz.

All the members of The Missiles of October have toured and been involved in extensive session work with a litany of respected artists and continue to move audiences of all ages to create their own musical vision.

The defining essence of this band rests with their spectacular high-energy live shows and their respect for the craft of song writing. Their original material is a reflection of their influences from Bob Dylan and Van Morrison to Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles.

With song writing skills intact, it's the extraordinary improvisational style consistently pushing the music flawlessly that brings their very loyal fans and audiences to new levels throughout their ten-plus years and gives The Missiles of October immense respect as one of Orange County's premier bands.

Poul Finn Pederson - Vocals, Guitar
